The blocked bed

How Bed Bug Blocker products seal a bed, part by part

Five parts, from the floor up, and the Bed Bug Blocker range has a shelf for each. The numbers lead there.

A blocked bed, seen from the side A bed pulled a few inches from the wall, standing in interceptor cups, with the mattress and box spring zipped into encasements, pillows in covers, and the blanket short of the floor. a few inches from the wall blanket stops short of the floor 12345
  1. 1
    A cup under every leg

Bed bugs climb poorly on slick walls: what walks up the leg falls into the cup and stays.

  2. 2
    The mattress zipped in

A zip-around cover closes all six sides; bugs inside stay inside, and the seams have nowhere to hide them.

  3. 3
    The box spring zipped in

The box spring has more hiding places than the mattress: wood, staples, fabric.

  4. 4
    Pillows in their own covers

A pillow cover zips on the short end and goes through the wash with the sheets.

  5. 5
A monitor where you cannot put a cup

Under a headboard, by a nightstand, beside the sofa: a monitor shows what moves there.

How many cups

How many interceptor cups does your home need?

A cup goes under every leg of every bed. Sofas and recliners get two each, the count Texas A&M uses.

6 cups

One 8-pack covers it, with two to spare.

See the interceptor cups

Square or wide legs need XL cups: measure the foot of the leg before you buy.

    Before you buy

What to check before you order from Bed Bug Blocker

    1. Count the legs

Every leg of the bed gets a cup, center supports included. A queen or king frame often stands on six or seven.

    2. Measure the foot of the leg

Round and slim legs take a standard cup. Measure a square foot or a sofa foot where it meets the floor: most of them need an XL cup.

    3. Read the bed size on the label

Queen and full are easy to confuse by eye, and so are king and California king. The tag sewn on the mattress says which.

    4. Measure the depth, seam to seam

From the bottom seam to the top of the pillow-top. Take the next depth up when you sit between two.

    5. Look at the end of the zipper

A flap, hook or lock over the last inch keeps the gap closed. The product page names which closure each cover has.

    6. Pull the bed off the wall

A few inches from the wall and the nightstand, bedding tucked in, so the legs are the only way up. The EPA and Texas A&M both say so.

    About the shop

    About Bed Bug Blocker

Bed Bug Blocker started in 2019 as a shop for the things that keep bed bugs off a bed without a spray: cups under the legs, covers that zip shut, monitors for the corners. 7 years on, that is still all the Bed Bug Blocker collection holds.

Every cover on our shelves names the bed size and depth it fits, and every cup its pack. When you are not sure which fits your bed, write to us and tell us the size and the depth.

    Questions

    Questions about Bed Bug Blocker

What does Bed Bug Blocker sell?

Interceptor cups for bed and furniture legs, zip-around encasements for the mattress, the box spring and the pillows, and monitors for the spots a cup cannot reach, from many makers. No sprays, powders or foggers.

Where can you buy the products you see on Bed Bug Blocker?

Each buy button opens the product at our retail partner, in the size or pack you picked. The checkout, delivery and returns are theirs.

Do you need both cups and an encasement on your bed?

They do different jobs. The University of Kentucky notes that an encasement does not stop a bed bug from climbing onto the bed. Cups under the legs stop that, and the encasement shuts in anything already inside.

How many interceptor cups will your home need?

One under every leg of every bed, plus two for each sofa and recliner if you want to watch them. Texas A&M counts twelve for a two-bedroom apartment. The cup calculator counts yours.

How do you know which encasement fits your bed?

Read the bed size on the mattress label, then measure the depth from the bottom seam to the top of the pillow-top. The size and depth guide lists the covers that fit.
