The fabric is water resistant rather than waterproof, so it sheds a splash but will not suit you if your pillow regularly gets soaked. The maker says the tight weave keeps out dust, pet hair and debris. Wash the cover on a gentle cycle, which is easier than putting the pillow itself in the machine.
